The word archetype means a perfect example, the personification. The vision behind Archetype is to create standard Australian wines cultivated from extraordinary vineyards.
Archetype began launching nationally in January 2006 and can be found on store shelves now.
For Archetype Barossa Valley Old Vine Reserve Shiraz comes from low-yielding 50 to 90 year-old vines, survivors of the government-orchestrated vine-pull of the 1980s. Some of these vines are located on the 120-acre estate vineyard of Chateau Yaldara, a landmark winery in Barossa Valley. Others are provided by neighboring estates in the region.
Fruit for the Archetype Barossa Shiraz and Archetype Barossa Cabernet-Shiraz, is sourced from specific vineyard blocks located on the valley floor of the Barossa and Eden Valley regions. Vines of varying ages, between 5 to 50 years-old, give the wines a whole host of flavors.
The vineyards of Barossa Valley are secured on one side by the Barossa Range and experience a long consistent growing season characterized by hot days and cool nights. Located to the east of Barossa Valley, Eden Valley is a cooler climate that makes elegant red wines in a variety of styles.
