In 1895, an English engineer, Mr. Edmund James Palmer Norton, first stepped on Mendoza soil during the building of a train which would connect Mendoza and Chile. Admired by the terroir, he planted vines imported from France, thereby giving origin to what was the first winery to the south of Mendoza river.
