Located in the Dão wine region, in Vila Nova de Tazém, Gouveia, near Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain of Portugal, Garrida has been highly involved in the production of quality wines. The estate covers a total area of 300 acres, of which 255 acres are planted with traditional red varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, and Alfroncheiro and traditional whites such as Encruzado, Bical and Arinto.
The soils are predominantly slate and granite with a high proportion of sand and some clay, which allow the production of wine with very distinct characteristics: elegant with good acidity. Bounded by high mountains and protected by the Atlantic, this rich wine region benefits from the warm summers, cool nights, and abundant winter rainfall.
