In the foothills of the Vaca Mountains, the eastern Napa Valley, there is a vineyard of Roy Estate. The mission of Roy Estate is to produce the very best wines possible from this tiny valley within a valley.
Charles and Shirley Roy were both born and raised on the East Coast. Charles is originally from Massachusetts. He is a civil engineer and an architect. Shirley was born on Long Island and grew up in New Jersey. She is an accountant and a student of fine food and wine.
The vineyard is divided into seventeen blocks, twelve blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, four blocks of Merlot and one block of Petit Verdot. The three varietals are planted with four rootstocks and nine clones. The spacing is six feet by three feet, which equals 2,430 vines per acre. The vineyard has elaborate irrigation systems which allow us to farm vine by vine.
