Founded by Peter Yealands in 2002, Yealands Estate winery is the premier sustainable producer in New Zealand and the country’s largest vineyard under private ownership.

The Yealands Estate Winery is located south of Marlborough in the Awatere Valley where rolling hills and river terraces make up the picturesque landscape. The combined river terraces and flood plains offer alluvial gravel soil and clay. Low rainfall, intense sunshine, cool nights and strong winds result in a smaller, thicker-skinned grape and lower yielding vines, which creates wines of intensity, purity and complexity.

The hallmark of the Yealands Estate is an absolute commitment to sustainable wine production, an undertaking that is consistent from vine to bottle. Many notable achievements have resulted from this commitment:

The newly constructed winery combines environmental design with state of the art technology – designed and constructed entirely under the New Zealand Building Council’s Green Star Building Certification.

Vineyard accreditation under the New Zealand Sustainable Wine Growers.

The installation of wind turbines and solar panels has moved Yealands Estate closer to its goal of becoming entirely self sufficient in power.

Certified CarboNZero in April 2009- The CarboNZero program recognizes the actions of businesses and organizations that measure their greenhouse gas emissions, understand their carbon liabilities and instigate management plans to reduce emissions in their organization and more widely through their supply chain.

The development of over 20 wetland areas on the vineyard has allowed the regeneration of native flora and wildlife.

Utilization of high recycled content in their packaging materials when possible – cartons contain 93% recycled content and the bottles are in excess of 60% as well.
