Grenache,
or Garnacha, is one of the most versatile red grapes in the world.
Styles vary from light and fruity to deep, brooding, and intense. In the
Southern Rhone Valley, Grenache is the key ingredient Chateauneuf du
Pape as well as being the principle grape variety in most of the
southern Cotes du Rhone Villages. In Spain, the grape is called Garnacha
and is found in the eastern Rioja Baja region. The most celebrated
Garnacha of Spain are grown in Priorato, where very old vine vineyards
produce wines of remarkable concentration and intensity.
